Annapurna Circuit Trek Overview
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most complete trekking journeys. It combines mountain views, traditional villages, changing landscapes, and high-altitude trekking into one long route. During the trek, the scenery slowly changes from green forests and river valleys to dry alpine terrain beyond the Himalayas.
The journey starts with a drive from Kathmandu toward the Annapurna region. The trail then follows the Marsyangdi Valley through villages like Chame, Pisang, and Manang. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes noticeably. Forests become open valleys, rocky hills, snow-covered peaks, and Tibetan-style mountain villages.
One of the biggest highlights of the trek is crossing Thorong La Pass (5,416m), one of the highest and most famous trekking passes in Nepal. After the pass, the trail descends toward Muktinath, Jomsom, and Marpha in the Mustang region, where the landscape becomes much drier and wider.
Unlike shorter treks that focus on a single viewpoint or destination, the Annapurna Circuit takes you through different regions, climates, and cultures. The experience constantly changes throughout the journey.
Some parts of the trek are physically challenging, especially around Thorong La Pass, but the itinerary includes gradual altitude gain and acclimatization days to help trekkers adjust properly.
By the end of the trek near Pokhara, the journey feels more like completing a full Himalayan crossing rather than simply reaching one viewpoint.
